A motorist in Bedford town centre racked up an almost unbelievable 102 parking fines over a nine-month period — totaling around £7,140 in penalties — highlighting growing concerns around repeat parking offenders in the area.

According to Bedford Borough Council, the penalty charge notices (PCNs) were all issued between January and September 2025 for illegal parking on High Street, a busy thoroughfare where enforcement is especially strict.

The council says this case shows the importance of cracking down on persistent rule-breakers and protecting road access for everyone. It uses the National Persistent Evader Database, a shared system that helps councils and other authorities flag vehicles repeatedly ignoring fines — even if they haven’t paid.
